» The Sims 3

The Sims 3 is the next instalment in the world’s best selling computer game series of all time, The Sims, and is due to hit shelves across the globe in the summer of 2009. The Sims 3 will be released in the United States on June 2nd 2009, and will follow in Europe shortly after on June 5th.

Fans of the series, and there are millions of you out there, will no doubt be feeling a little disappointed at the moment because of the release date delay – the game was originally due for release in February – but never the less The Sims 3 looks set to bring a whole new meaning to ‘life management simulation’ games when it does finally land on your doormat this summer.

The team at Electronic Arts/Maxis behind the development of The Sims 3 have gone to great lengths to give fans of the series some input into The Sims 3, as it is those people like you and me that have made The Sims franchise such an enormous success. Practically everything you ever loved about The Sims and The Sims 2 will be there once again in The Sims 3, only bigger, better and looking much smoother in the new graphically advanced game environment.

Not only have the graphics been improved in The Sims 3 from previous Sims titles, the gameplay has been also with neighbourhoods finally being given a sense of real-time playability. Gone are the lengthy loading screens we saw in The Sims 2 at every change between properties, community lots or neighbourhoods and instead The Sims 3 offers you a free-flowing feeling that you will undoubtedly love from the very beginning.

As well as improved free flowing neighbourhoods, The Sims 3 also introduces us to a variety of other new features such as a new far more advanced Create-A-Sim mode than we have seen in the past which gives you the ability to customise your game world characters in ways never before possible physically, mentally and emotionally – you will come up with some pretty crazy people if the looks and personality trait combinations you give them don’t sit well with people around them – won’t that be great!

Another new feature in The Sims 3 is the added ability to customise virtually everything in the game how you see fit. That does not only apply to furniture, to which you can set any pattern you wish whether it’s one of the provided patterns in the game, or a photo of yourself sitting on your hard drive! That’s right, you could take a photo of yourself and have a sofa covered in it – if you want to. This also applies to flooring and wall coverings amongst other things – the possibilities really are endless in The Sims 3.

The Sims 3 sees a new kind of gameplay for The Sims series too, with the general open gameplay tools being given a complete makeover as well as the property design process. Needless to say there is a whole host of new social interactions, careers and lifestyle opportunities for your sims in The Sims 3, and you now have much more creative freedom when building homes too with the new advanced tools that have been made available to us.

Whether or not you have been a fan of The Sims or The Sims 2 in the past, The Sims 3 will offer you something to introduce you nicely to the series, as well as boasting everything that the most dedicated Sims series followers will have come to expect and love. The Sims 3 is without doubt a contender for game of the year, and it hasn’t even been released yet! It will top the sales charts, it will take over you life, The Sims 3 is coming!
