The Sims 3 fans across the globe are an opinionated bunch to say the least. You, just like all the others have your own individual opinions on pretty much every aspect of The Sims 3, and also The Sims and The Sims 2 games before it and here at Sims 3 Website, we want your opinions to be heard.
With The Sims 3 being a game based on a neighbourhood and it’s inhabitants social lives within it, morality was always going to become a talking point and it is that which we want to focus on with you.
In past games in the series we have come across things like alien abductions, the ability to neglect children and babies and as small as it may seem, the ability for your sims to die right in front of your eyes. They may die in a some-what comical way, but the bottom line is they die.
These things have all been questioned by some people in the past – critics from outside the gaming world, critics within the gaming world and most importantly of all, critics from within The Sims fan base itself.
The Sims 3 has introduced us to a new talking point which has had it’s morality questioned – the ability to play as ghosts, and produce ghost babies. Is this another stroke of genius from the creators of The Sims 3 as they attempt to keep the series fresh for us all, or is it simply a step too far into the un-necessary and immoral? Is it actually immoral at all, and if so, why is it?
As active members of the fans community we take part in discussions on many active forums dedicated to The Sims 3. Some people have suggested things which in our minds are far more immoral, such as the ability to terminate pregnancies.
We believe you could also look at things from the other side, too. Is it not immoral that The Sims 3 team have yet again refused to include disabilities in the game? Are fans of the series who happen to have a disability of any kind not being discriminated against by not being represented in the game?
We invite you to debate the issues raised in this article in the Sims 3 Website forums. Please come and express your opinions – they will be listened to and respected.

You see, now you’ve just turned me completely off the whole game:
“Some people have suggested things which in our minds are far more immoral, such as the ability to terminate pregnancies.”
Where do you get off preaching your own view of such issues on a site intended to publicise a computer game? I have been a fan of the Sims in its previous iterations but I will not be buying Sims 3. That would be tantamount to condoning your bigotry.
The world is not black and white. There are circumstances in which even the most rabid right-to-lifer must acknowledge that terminations have their place.
What next? The ability for Sims to firebomb abortion clinics?
It is a shame that The Sims 3 had lost one of its most defining characteristics, Aliens. I do hope that they will make a triumphent return in the next expantion pack. :{ I miss the weirdness.
Is this article for real? Seriously? There are so many other games that have far bigger morality concerns, like any of the GTA games. Sims 3 is SO tame. The only thing I could agree with you about is the disability thing.
First off, I completely agree with Zoe. Second, melanie, stop being such a self-righteous bigmouth. Just because a fan of the Sims 3 expresses an opinion on abortion does not mean that you should not buy the Sims 3. There’s absolutely no good cause for that.
As for disability, I don’t necessarily agree that it’s PREJUDICE against disabled people, but rather that it should be implemented because it’s such a big part of life. (And, frankly, I’d like to see Greg House with his limp) However, things like wheelchairs and wheelchair accessibility would have to be implemented. And what about mental disability? All of a sudden, we’d be plunged into so much new content that it would definitely have to be the main subject of an expansion pack, and I don’t think there’s much profitability to be had buy getting people to buy an expansion to make their Sims disabled.
All the immoral things are very bad for your mind. Also me or my parents won’t be buying the games any more since i found the immoral things just by playing the game. I think that the creators should make a whole new set of sims without withs, wirazds, aliens, gay couples, etc… but still have the other features like pets. But until the creators do this then me and my parents won’t be buying or supporting sims at all. Many might disagree with me but depending if your parents are unware or aware of the immoral things. Also if you parents are srict about immoral things then you would know how immoral things are horrilble for your mind.
I think your sad Susan and scared of your own shadow.
Wont be playing because gay couples are in the game. There only in the game if you make them!
Not playing because of wizards. There are none in sims 3 (yet) but still you obviously a christian freak pushing your beliefs onto everyone who disagrees.
I have The Sims 3 and I love it!
Hiya,
I am classed as blind and a big fan of the sims 3. I access it through using a magnification software on my laptop and love the game. I don’t feel like I am being discriminated against by not being included in the game but I would love to be represented realistically as blind on the game. I think it could be great- sign language and sign language interpreters that could be in the household, wheelchairs, canes for the blind – it’s a big world! I would love love love it if disabilities could be included because disabilities are a very big part of today’s world.
I aggree completely with everyone who said about the disabilities because my siblings are disabled and it would be great to be able to actually make them and represent the disabled at the same time. I say Sims 3 Disabilities should be made!
I think that we should have disabilities in the game! I don’t feel discriminated against, but would love to see disabilities. I am sorry Susan but you cannot hide people from gay couples. Homosexuality is not immoral, fact!
What I like about The Sims is that sims accept each other despite gender, colour, race, wealth or sexuality. If people say that kids will play Grand Theft Auto and then emulate what that game is about (i.e. killing, maming, stealing and drug-dealing) then surely it would follow that if they played The Sims they would learn to accept everyone equally. Also have you noticed how in the world of The Sims men and women are paid exactly equally? I think we should get more people playing this game!
Lots of love

ok i accept that growing up being disabled or having a family member who is disabled in some form is difficult and that although in todays world people with such problems shouldnt face discrimination , they do at some point or another, obviously this is completely wrong but the simple fact is … this is a game, it is designed to entertain. as mentioned earlier in current versions of the game people do things just to see the comical response or just to see what happens and the simple fact is if you combine these 2 factors ie people already have pre-set ideas about those with disabilities with the ability to create a scenario where they can mock someone with a disability… i am sad to say they will do this and i think all it serves to do is grow predjudice rather than help it.
i mean come on in this version you can play as a ghost it clearly isnt a game thats meant to be taken this seriously not only that if it was decided for EA to add in disabilities then lets look at the impact it could have on such a large organisation.1- they would be tasked with creating characters that accurately represented the issue in hand while still staying true to the games format… now if this was mis-judged they leave themselves open to massive criticism and also potential law suits.
2- if a company the size of EA was taken down they could be forced to pay millions and recall all copies of the game this could mean the loss of thousands of jobs world wide plus a significant impact on the world markets in an already fragile world.
